TRAPLINE ZENTINEL

The new generation pheromone diffuser to monitor males of the South American Leafminer (Tuta absoluta).

Zentinal is the new generation diffuser technology that guarantees a constant and uniform release of the pheromone for at least 45 days, independent of the ambient conditions.

What is Trapline ZENTINEL® ?

Trapline ZENTINEL® is a diffuser of the pheromone of South American tomato leaf miner (Tuta absoluta Polovny). Made of Zeolite, it is designed to produce constant rates of release over a minimum of 45 days. The unique characteristics of this formulation make it less susceptible to variations in temperature than dispensers based upon rubber septa or membranes, and provide a much more uniform rate of release during the life of the dispenser, irrespective of environmental conditions.

Trapline ZENTINEL® is used as a sexual attractant for males of Tuta absoluta. The mixture of volatiles emitted is highly attractive to, and very selective for, males of this species of moth. The unique characteristics of the product give us a better understanding of changes in the population of Tuta absoluta during the life of the crop, and gives valuable guidance on when to plant the crop, and when to apply treatments with biological control agents or insecticides.

How to use Trapline ZENTINEL®

Trapline ZENTINEL® should be used in water traps for the best results. It can also be used in Delta traps or on sticky traps.

The pheromone emitter has a minimum life of 45 days. After that time, it should be replaced with a new emitter to ensure continued efficiency. Remove the emitter from the package immediately before use.

Do not discard the packaging or the old emitter in the plot, as this can reduce the trap catch. Place the emitter in the holder provided in the trap. This will vary depending on the type of trap used. For Delta traps and sticky traps, it is important to place the emitter in the centre of the trap, and to minimise contact with the sticky surface.

If the emitter is placed directly onto a sticky surface, the pheromone emissions will be reduced. Traps should be placed into the plots before planting, to assess existing Tuta absoluta populations. The recommended rate is 4 traps per hectare. For plots smaller than 5,000 m², use a minimum of 2 traps. Distribute the traps evenly through the crop. Hang Delta and sticky traps at a height of 1-2 metres.

Examine the traps and record catches at least once each week. Use this information to detect changes in populations of Tuta absoluta within the crop, and take appropriate action when populations increase. Any pesticide treatments must be made in accordance with local recommendations and regulations.
